ND/HND Courses in Federal Polytechnic Ukana: The Federal Polytechnic, Ukana is hosted by three Villages in Ukana West Clan in Essien Udim Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. The Polytechnic operates two Campuses: Annex and the Main Campus. The Annex Campus was donated by the Akwa Ibom State Government during the administration of His Excellency, Chief Godswill Obot Akpabio to the Institution as a take-off Campus. The Main Campus, sitting on 33.44 hectares of land, was also donated by the Government of Akwa Ibom State to the Institution. Both Campuses are easily accessible since they are close to the Ikot Ekpene/Abak dual carriage way.
The Polytechnic has and is still enjoying a robust relationship with the Traditional Institutions and members of the Host Communities. We have a constant interface with the Clan Head and other stakeholders which has culminated into a very mutual relationship between the Institution and Host Communities. We also hope to continue to strengthen the relationship with time.
ND/HND Courses in Federal Polytechnic Ukana
The pioneer Management team was headed by Prof. Balama Joseph Obomanu, who was the first Rector of the Polytechnic from 2014 to 2018, followed by Dr Uduak S. Ukekpe who served as Rector from 2018 to 2023.
On the 4th of February, 2025, Amb. (Mrs) Eduma Enobong Essien was appointed as the third substantive and first female Rector of the Polytechnic by His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR after she emerged top in the Rectorship interview by the Governing Council of the Polytechnic chaired by Mallah Abubakar Ribadu
Also, the Polytechnic has had four Acting Rectors in the past 11 years of its existence, they are: Dr (Mrs) Emem Udofia, now a Professor, Dr (Mrs) Mercy E. Ebong, QS. Uduak Inyang-Udoh and Dr. Maurice E. Udom.
With the recent accreditation of 19 Programmes, the Polytechnic now runs 21 Programmes that cut across 5 Schools, viz;

Despite all the successes achieved in these 11 years, there are still a lot of challenges to overcome. Going forward, there is the urgent need to increase Students’ population and workforce in the areas of Teaching and Non-Teaching Staff, increase in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR). Hence, the Polytechnic will commence very soon her woodwork and paper factory, skills acquisition and development center, sale of items produced by our Students during their Entrepreneurship programme.
I am deeply grateful to all those who have contributed to the development and growth of the Polytechnic for the past 11 years and pray for the continued success of the Institution.
