Book Review on Peace and Conflict Resolution: An Assignment On GST 311

Book Review on Peace and Conflict Resolution: An Assignment On GST 311

GST 311-Peace and Conflict Resolution is a re-introduced course in the university system under the Core Curriculum and Minimum Academic Standar (CCMAS) programme and policy. It is approved by the National Universities Commission (NUC) as a core course in the university system and endorsed by the Federal Ministry of Education and the Federal Government of Nigeria. It is a course offered across Faculties by Third Year (300 level) students. It is core and compulsory because peace is inevitable in a society where development is a priority, and where there is conflict, it is pertinent to resolve it. This justifies the compulsion imposed on the course and students offering it, as a minimum standard for graduation in the Nigerian university system.

Readers are exposed to titles such as Understanding the Concepts of Peace, Conflict, Conflict Resolution, Security; Forms/Types of Conflict and Security; Conventional Media, New Media and Conflict Resolution, Language in Conflict Resolution, Causes, Strategies, Post-conflict situations and a variety of others. Legal perspective of conflict resolution, Environmental Insecurity as well as Benefits of peace and conflict resolution are comprehensively addressed. It is, therefore, a rewarding venture to invest in the academic perspective of peace and conflict resolution.

The Book is 180 pages in number, written by 15 authors and 12 chapters
